How it all started
Walk into almost any Masjid in North America during Jumu'ah, and you'll see a familiar sight: dedicated volunteers passing donation boxes, while attendees frantically check their pockets for cash.
As society rapidly transitioned to a cashless economy, Islamic organizations were left behind. Masjids were missing out on crucial funds simply because the younger generation, and increasingly the older generation, stopped carrying physical wallets.
Khayr was born out of this necessity. We realized that off-the-shelf payment processors weren't built for the unique needs of a Masjid—they didn't understand Zakat routing, Sadaqah Jariyah, or the fast-paced nature of Friday prayers.
We set out to build enterprise-grade hardware and software that respects the sanctity of the Masjid while offering the seamless, modern experience donors expect. Today, Khayr is powered by GiveBear, the fundraising platform behind our broader giving infrastructure.
